In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, New Ipswich Historical society invites all members and the general public to its Annual Meeting and Program. Funded by New Hampshire Humanities & Stearns-Burton Lecture Fund, the program is free and open to all.
Humorous stories of traditional American singers and their music highlight this informative musical program, sharing news from the distant past while helping us interpret present-day life. Rich in local history and a strong sense of place, these well-loved tunes—including tavern and banjo songs, 18th-century New England hymns, and sailor ditties—offer audiences a deeper understanding of the working people who helped build our country.
A New York City native, Jeff lives in Portsmouth and has performed throughout NH for New Hampshire Humanities and the NH Council on the Arts. He has toured nationally for the Smithsonian Institution, taught at prestigious summer institutes, and recorded CDs, which will be available for purchase. Jeff is a founding officer of Folk Alliance International, a producer of the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival, and a past president of the Country Dance and Song Society, which honored his dedication to traditional folk music with its Lifetime Contribution Award in 2016.
