Current Society Project: Excerpts from James Roger’s Diary - 16th April 1912: Thunder and rain during night; fair till 3 p.m.
and thunderstorm with a little rain. David (Roger’s son) went to
Greenville for paints, etc. Hudson buried this afternoon. I helped
young Chandler to empty the water out the grave and put in box.
Papers full today of the account of the terrible disaster to the
Titanic which struck an iceberg off Newfoundland and sank four
hours after with 1500 on board. Only saved 625 women & children. - 17th April 1912: Fine day but cloudy and variable winds. Eclipse
of sun this morning from 5:20 to 6:40…No definite news of the
wreck of Titanic until the Carpathia comes into New York
tomorrow. Home Rule Bill passed first reading in House of
Commons yesterday by nearly 100 majority. Got letter from Alice
today. Saw 2 red-headed birds today.
